Prairie dog!
Here are two view of this adorable little critter that my boyfriend and I came across while on vacation in Kelowna in 2007. I was absolutely thrilled when we came across him and then positively giddy when his friends showed up as well and they started chirping away because I had never see prairie dogs before. The climate in Montreal is rather inhospitable to them, so the only place I could ever hope to see one would be the Biodome, which just isn't the same. When it comes to animals, nothing thrills me more than to see them in their natural habitat.
If you would like to see critters of every description, swing by Camera Critters, there are plenty of them to go around :o)
Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteJust adorable!
ReplyDeleteI agree - It's more exciting to see them out & about where they actually live! Great shots
ReplyDeleteOh wow - they're cute, almost as cute as us...he he he! ;) We'd love to meet up with one of these fellas on one of our walks.
ReplyDeleteI love watching these cute critters when I encounter them in the wild. You've captured this one magnificently ;--)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
I'm with you -- natural habitat is great. Love these little critters. Thanks1
ReplyDeletewonderful shot, she looks so cute and adorable.
ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you, but that's a Yellow-bellied Marmot.
ReplyDeletelol Oh no!!! But it was doing that chirping thing just like a prairie dog! It looks nothing like the groundhogs that we have here in Montreal!
ReplyDeleteI think the only spot you can find a prairie dog in Canada is in southern Saskatchewan. I put a couple photos for comparison here: http://picasaweb.google.com/rndouglas/Mammals
ReplyDeleteAh, I see the difference now. Well, in my defense, they're not hugely different, especially when a city girl like me sees them and they get up on their hind legs and call out like I'd seen prairie dogs do on TV!
