Tenacious ducks

My camera critters this week are these brave ducks who stayed on for the winter, living in the freezing St-Lawrence river. I was very surprised to see them while out on my walk last weekend, since I always thought that all the waterfowl flew off for the winter here, but I guess only the ones that live on the banks of the western portion of the river do, since the water freezes there. Maybe the just move further down river into the seaway where the current is stronger and the water never freezes completely? Anyhow, these ducks sure made for a pretty picture :o)

Have a great weekend and be sure to go and check out more camera critters here

  1. I think you'd be surprised at how many ducks there are during the winter as long as there is open water. Esp. at the ocean! I know I sure was when I was introduced to "ducking" one cruel, cold, bitter winter in Maine! Nice shot.

  4. Great shot! We have a few hardy ducks that stayed here for the winter as well ... you can catch them along the sides of the river where it hasn't quite frozen over yet.
