Prairie dog!

Here are two view of this adorable little critter that my boyfriend and I came across while on vacation in Kelowna in 2007. I was absolutely thrilled when we came across him and then positively giddy when his friends showed up as well and they started chirping away because I had never see prairie dogs before. The climate in Montreal is rather inhospitable to them, so the only place I could ever hope to see one would be the Biodome, which just isn't the same. When it comes to animals, nothing thrills me more than to see them in their natural habitat.

If you would like to see critters of every description, swing by Camera Critters, there are plenty of them to go around :o)

Have a great weekend!

  1. I agree - It's more exciting to see them out & about where they actually live! Great shots

  7. lol Oh no!!! But it was doing that chirping thing just like a prairie dog! It looks nothing like the groundhogs that we have here in Montreal!

  8. I think the only spot you can find a prairie dog in Canada is in southern Saskatchewan. I put a couple photos for comparison here: http://picasaweb.google.com/rndouglas/Mammals

  9. Ah, I see the difference now. Well, in my defense, they're not hugely different, especially when a city girl like me sees them and they get up on their hind legs and call out like I'd seen prairie dogs do on TV!
